The Heritage Society’s new season was launched with a convivial social evening at the Fairland Hall when several members staged displays of their various hobbies past and present.
Pauline Clarke, who took up bell-ringing at Cromer in 1973 and now rings at the Abbey, showed campanology memorabilia, while Richard Fowle, who helps run the Town Archive, displayed a fascinating collection of old photographs and documents relating to the locality.
Charles Clarke exhibited some of the finds from his collection of flint implements found while walking fields, among them Neolithic axe heads and arrowheads, as well as a rare mace head from the Mesolithic age.
Philip Yaxley’s collection included books, magazine articles and newspaper features he had researched and written over many years.
Bruce Blackney’s intriguing display of photographs and other material related to his mountaineering days whilst serving in the R.A.F. He had climbed the Annapurna Himalayan mountain range, while in 1974 he organized an expedition to explore the Solomon’s Throne range in Iran.
